RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Research Scientist:  Department of Defense, 2013-present

Principle Investigator:  Dr. Lynn Borden

Role:  Working within a team setting to research and prepare rapid response brief and full reports on topics related to child development and well being that are commissioned by the Department of Defense. Duties include working in team environment to conduct comprehensive literature searches, provide critical reviews of target materials and integrate and synthesize findings into final research reports.

Project Coordinator, Principal Investigator:  Risky Adolescent Behavior, 2010-present

Role: Designed and developed a study to investigate sex differences in risky adolescent behavior. Measure aggregation from item compilation and secondary data analyses, including multilevel modeling, have been performed.

Research Associate:  Adolescent Health, 2011-2013

Principal Investigators:  Dr. Stephen Russell, Dr. Joyce Serido, and Dr. Kathy Conger

Role:  Performed structural equation modeling to assess the association between early parent-child relationships and later financial stress and substance use/abuse.

Research Associate:  Flowing Wells Project, 2009-2013

Principal Investigators: Dr. Bruce Ellis and Dr. Melissa Barnett

Role: Project Coordinator overseeing 15 undergraduate research assistants. Active role in developing a study designed to assess correlates of “risky” behavior in children. Scale construction and development, focus group leader, primary data collection, and quantitative analyses performed.

Project Coordinator, Co-Principal Investigator:  Teaching Evolution in Family Studies, 2010-2013

Project Co-PI:  Thomas Cabeza de Baca

Project Advisor:  A.J. Figueredo

Role: Designed and developed a series of studies to investigate obstacles toward teaching evolution in family studies programs across the United States. Scale creation, online data collection, and quantitative analyses performed.

Research Associate:  Primate Paternal Care, 2009-2012

Principal Investigator: Dr. Dieter Steklis

Role: Performed a meta-analysis of primate paternal care to determine the factors influencing and contributing to likelihood of paternal care. Model development and empirical testing performed.

Project Coordinator:  Princess Alice Project, 2008-2009

Principal Investigator:  Dr. David Bjorklund

Role: Designed and developed a study to measure children’s inhibitory behavior as a function of the suggested presence of a supernatural agent. Primary data collection, data entry, and quantitative analyses performed.

Research Assistant:  Predator-Prey Project, 2007-2008

Principal Investigators: Dr. David Bjorklund and Dr. Bruce Ellis

Role: Primary data collection, data entry, and quantitative analyses (using advanced statistics – generalized estimating equations) to determine whether children’s cognition is disrupted as a result of reasoning about predator-prey relationships.
